Some of the wedding traditions are nice and interesting, some are weird or even cruel and some are a mere result of superstitious belief. I am going to talk about interesting wedding traditions of some countries. These countries are orderly Scotland, Swedish, Pakistan, Mauritania, Malaysia, Sudan, India and Poland. I choosed these countries because these are more interesting than the others.
The Scots has some unique and weird wedding and pre-wedding customs, “Blackening of the bride” being one of them. The bride is captured by her friends and 'blackened’ by using substances such as feathers, flour, curdled milk, rotten eggs, spoiled curry, smelly fish sauces, flour and sausages. After being blackened, she is either tied to a tree or taken to the local streets and the pubs with the friends clanging the pots to announce the wedding.
The Swedishs has ‘kissing tradition’.It is not just between the bride and groom, if the groom leaves the room for any reason, the other men at the wedding are allowed to kiss the bride! And vice versa!
Traditional Pakistani marriage wedding celebretions lasts for four day. Pakistani have interesting traditions, also. The bride receives a traditional henna staining of her hands and feet. The other interesting tradition is their wearing style. The bride's gown is very elaborate and she dresses veil and jewelry. Men wear a distinctive traditional turban.
In Mauritania, bride’s parents are sending brides to a fat farm where they are forced to eat too much food until they vomit! It doesn't matter if it ruins their health or make them live shorter lives. All that matters is that the woman is as large as possible in order to sell her for a high price when she reaches the age for marrying.
Malaysian has an interesting tradition. In their wedding tradition, the bride and the groom cannot go to the bathroom for at least 72 hours before the ceremony. The couple is starved but given little quantities of water.
In Sudan, the bride and groom bend forward and kiss the knees of their parents, a ceremony called ‘sungkem’,asking for forgiveness , blessing and promising to continue to serve their parents. In the other tradition, the bride and groom sit next to each other under an umbrella in front of the entrance to their future home with a veil covering both of their heads. The umbrella is held over the couple's head, serving not only a very practical purpose but also symbolizing esteem and respect.
India has colorful weddings traditions. One of them is the groom’s feet are washed by the bride’s mother. Then milk and honey are offered. The highlight is 'Saptapadi', also called 0the 'Seven Steps'. In seven steps around the fire, they are agreeing to for a strong union with the seven vows.It is representing prosperity in their new life together. This is considered the most important part of the ceremony.
In Poland, guests pin money to the bride's wedding dress to buy a dance from her.Or the money can be put into a basket, plate, or decorated box before dancing with the bride.
In a conclusion, every country’s tradition changes from country to country. Every nation has its own customs. People have different customs because of their living environment. And this effect their life styles.
